With the continuous development of science and technology, new technologies, new materials and new processes are emerging. With China's entry into WTO, the gap between the level of woodworking machinery and equipment in China and abroad will be smaller and smaller, and the advanced technology and equipment in foreign countries will continue to pour in. For domestic woodworking machinery, challenges and opportunities coexist. The development of electronic technology, digital control technology, laser technology, microwave technology and high-pressure jet technology has brought new vitality to the automation, flexibility, intellectualization and integration of furniture machinery, increasing the variety of machine tools and improving the technology level. The development trends at home and abroad are as follows:

(1) The involvement of high and new technology in woodworking machinery and the promotion of automation and intellectualization, whether the application of NC processing technology in woodworking machinery or the popularization of computer technology, all indicate that high and new technology is advancing to various technical fields. Electronic technology, nanotechnology, space technology and biotechnology are being or will be widely used in the field of woodworking machinery.

(2) More imitation of metal processing means. From the development history of woodworking machinery worldwide, wood processing methods have the trend of assimilation with metal processing methods, such as the emergence of CNC router, is an example. Can we boldly predict that wood will be shaped like forged steel ingots in the future? More imitation of metal processing means.

(3) From the perspective of domestic development pattern, timber processing enterprises or woodworking machinery and equipment tend to be large-scale and large-scale, otherwise they will be eliminated. At present, there is still a large market for backward and simple woodworking machinery in China, and many wood processing enterprises are still pursuing labor-intensive business model. Wood processing enterprises in the future will inevitably take the road of industrialization, large-scale development.

(4) Improve the comprehensive utilization rate of wood. Due to the decrease of forest resources in China and even in the world, the shortage of high quality raw materials has become the main reason that restricts the development of timber industry. It is the main task of timber industry to maximize the utilization of timber. It is the most effective way to utilize wood resources efficiently to develop all kinds of wood-based panel products and improve their quality and application scope. In addition, the utilization rate of wood can be improved to a certain extent by developing whole tree utilization, reducing processing losses and improving processing accuracy.

(5) It is wise for our government to carry out the construction of two systems of returning farmland to forestry, natural forest protection project, forestry and six major projects to protect the environment. Since July 1, 2002, the standards of wood-based panel products have been fully enforced and no production or sale has been allowed to meet the requirements of environmental protection. The development of wood processing industry must follow two principles: first, protecting the environment, minimizing the demand for natural resources and minimizing environmental pollution; secondly, wood processing products must be harmless or harmful to the human body within a minimum range. Therefore, the future viable woodworking machinery and wood industrial products must be designed according to ergonomics and meet the requirements of environmental protection.

(6) Improve production efficiency and automation. There are two ways to improve production efficiency: one is to shorten the processing time, but to shorten the auxiliary time. In addition to increasing the cutting speed and feed rate, the main measure to shorten the processing time is process concentration. Because of the reasons of cutting tools, vibration and noise, the cutting speed and feed rate can not be increased indefinitely, because the multi-tool through combined machine tool and multi-process centralized machining center have become the main development direction. Such as double-end milling machine which combines sawing, milling, drilling, tenoning, sanding and other functions; edge sealing machine which combines a variety of processing technologies; CNC machining center which concentrates a variety of cutting processes, etc. The main way to shorten the assistant working time is to reduce the non-processing time. The assistant working time can be reduced to the minimum by using the machining center with tool library or by automatically exchanging workbenches between CNC pipeline and flexible processing unit.
